It is a Visitor Visa that allows holders to remain in Canada for a maximum of two years without having to renew their status. This visa is available to grandparents and parents of Permanent Residents and Citizens of Canada.
It is possible for eligible grandparents and parents to remain in Canada provisionally through the Super Visa and obtain permanent residence later through sponsorship from their grandchildren or children.
A Canada Super Visa was introduced in 2011 and has helped several thousands of overseas grandparents and parents to apply for Canada immigration for an extended period of time. A number of communities and families have benefited from it both socially and economically. It allows naturalized citizens and immigrants of working age to actively participate in the Canadian labor force. It helps grandparents and parents of adult children take care of infants.
As well as the spouse, common-law partner, or children of a Super Visa applicant, other dependents are not permitted. Those with Canada Super Visas are not permitted to work.
There is a different processing timeline depending on the country from which you are applying. You may also be required to submit biometrics. It should also be noted that the Super Visa can be obtained even during the process of applying for Permanent Residence.
The difference between a Super Visa and a Visitor Visa:
The Canada Super Visa is a type of Visitor Visa that is offered only to grandparents and parents of permanent residents and citizens of Canada. The major difference between a Visitor Visa and Super Visa is the period permitted to remain in Canada. Usually, a Canada Visitor Visa authorizes a stay only for 6 months. You have to apply for an extension of your Visa for prolonging your stay in Canada. Meanwhile, you can remain in Canada for a maximum of 2 years at a time without applying for the extension on a Super Visa.
What is the process for applying for a Canada Super Visa?
The application for Super Visa can be submitted online or offline/paper-based. You must demonstrate that you are a grandparent or parent of a Permanent Resident or Citizen of Canada. The application must include an Invitation Letter from your grandchild or child. In addition to your care plans, it should include details of the number of family members living in the household.
The grandchild or child will also need to prove they have adequate funds to support your stay in Canada. They will have to prove that they have health insurance coverage for a minimum of one year from a private insurer in Canada. In this case, they must meet the LICO – Low Income Cut-Off Ceiling based on the size of their family. The Invitation Letter must also be signed by your grandchild or child inviting you to Canada.
There is no guarantee that an Invitation Letter will guarantee the approval of a Visa. In other words, it is only a way for the Visa Officers to determine if your application complies with the requirements and terms of Canadian immigration.
A written assurance of monetary support including a signature is required for both the applicant and the sponsored individual.
The Canada Super Visa applications have no annual ceiling for intake, as is the case in the PGP – Parent and Grandparent Program. However, Super Visa applicants need medical insurance from a private firm to qualify for approval. They are also processed comparatively faster. They do not have Permanent Residency status in Canada, whereas PGP-approved applicants do.
Visitors without a visa and the Canada Super Visa:
Based on their nationality, some overseas nationals do not require a Visitor Visa to visit Canada. They are also known as Visitors with Visa exemptions. Visitors with such visa exemptions may remain in Canada for a maximum of 6 months without having to renew their status. In order to stay in Canada for 2 years at a time, grandparents and parents with Visa exemption will be able to spend more time with their families.
In the same manner as other Super Visa applicants, grandparents and parents with visa exemptions must apply. Upon arrival in Canada, they will be issued a letter authorizing their stay in a place of a Visa that they need to present to the Border Service Officer. Regardless of whether they are successful in their Super Visa application or not, they must apply for an ETA – Electronic Travel Authorization before they can enter Canada.
Super Visa extensions:
If you wish to remain in Canada for more than two years, you must apply for an extension of your Super Visa. If you wish to remain in Canada for more than two years, you must apply for an extension. You must apply for an extension 30 days before the current status expires. While the application for an extension is being processed, your existing Visa may expire, but you can still remain in Canada while you await a decision. This is referred to as implied status.
Do I need insurance to apply for a Super Visa?
Prior to arriving in Canada, all applicants for the Canada Super Visa must purchase medical insurance from a private Canadian company. Choose the top insurance companies for your Super Visa application. As a result, you will be guaranteed skilled insurance services. In addition to this, you will be provided with a comparison between a number of insurance providers so that you can choose the best policy for your needs.
